ONLINE LEARNING FRAMEWORK & TOOLKIT

As part of a team of learning designers in the Office of Human Resources, I created the design and layout for the Online Learning Framework in 2018. It provides user-friendly guidance and standards for the development of online learning products at the United Nations, and is based on the ADDIE-model.

about the design process

The raw information for online learning guidelines initially lived in an Excel document, grouped generically. The content was sound, but it was hard to navigate and gave instructional designers no clear path from first idea to finished learning solution.

I proposed to restructure the content around the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation).

This gave every guideline a logical home within the learning lifecycle and tailored a recognized methodology to the UN context: its audiences, its multilingual and multi-duty-station reality, and its accessibility and quality requirements.

The framework and toolkit gives UN instructional designers a streamlined, consistent process for building learning for UN staff, from needs analysis through to evaluation.

It is still the standard in use today (2026).
